Megísti (also known as Kastellorizo or Meís) is a Greek island and municipality located in the Eastern Mediterranean, about 7 km from Kaş.

Meis Island Trips

The island has become very popular in recent years among tourists looking for an isolated place in the Dodecanese, thanks also to the 1991 Oscar-winning movie Mediterraneo, by Gabriele Salvatores, which is set on the island during the Second World War.

It is six kilometres long and three kilometres wide, with a surface of 11.98 km². The population, according to the 2021 census, stood at 594. The houses of the town are slender and characterized by wooden balconies and windows of the Anatolian type. When visiting Megísti, it is absolutely imperative to visit the Blue Cave as well.

Turkish citizens are required to have a Schengen visa. If you are Turkish and have a Green passport you are not required to have a visa. Following passport procedures, the Kaş-Meis-Kaş boats sails off to the island at 10h00 in the morning (seasonal).

A fortress, several churches, a museum, a small hospital, a few banks, and a duty free-shop (available for you to do duty-free shopping) can be found on the island. Guides are available and can accompany and guide you during your visit to the island’s attractions.

The Blue Grotto, which is the second largest cave in Europe, can also be visited on daily Meis tours. Tour operators will visit the cave and it’s special occupants - the Mediterranean seals.
